Profile

Minal took Silk in November 2017. 

She was  the Victorian Bar Representative of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia for 14 years from 2007 until 2021.

She was the Chair of the Papers Committee for the Law Council's Biannual National Family Law Conference in 2016 and Co-Chair of the Junior Day for young lawyers as part of the Conference. She presented as a member of a panel on Trusts and Family Law during the Conference.

Minal has prepared papers and spoken at the Family Law Section's Family Law Intensive programs around Australia. In 2017 she presented at the Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne Family Law Intensives on "Bankruptcy, Insolvency and Family Law" and in 2018 presented a series on Ethics in Family Law nationally. 

Minal has presented a number of times at the Tasmanian Family Law Practitioners Annual Conference and at the WA Family Law Practitioners Annual Conference, as well as presented CPD seminars for the NT Family Law Practitioners Association.

Minal presented a paper on the role of the Independent Children's Lawyer for a LawAsia Conference in Singapore in 2009. She regularly presents for Television Education Network on various family law topics including at their annual Gold Coast conference. She has also delivered papers at the Law Institute of Victoria's annual Family Law Intensive as well as conferences run by the Leo Cussen Institute. Minal has conducted workshops for the LIV Family Law Specialist Accreditation program. She presented as part of a panel discussing Family Law and cases of Gender Dysphoria at the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts Conference in August 2017.

Minal completed the Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators' arbitration course in 2008 and is an accredited Family Law Arbitrator and member of AIFLAM. She is an accredited Advocacy Instructor with the Australian Advocacy Institute and has taught at its advocacy training workshops and assisted with moots and evaluations for the Bar Readers' Course.

Minal has a significant Mediation practice and regularly act as Mediator.

Minal is a Victorian Bar Conciliator and a member of the Bar's Continuing Professional Development Committee. She is a member of the Asian Australian Lawyers' Association. In 2020, she was the co-editor of Australian Family Lawyer, a journal for family law professionals published through the Law Council of Australia.
